Do you think it's important for a book to be historically accurate? There's some serious criticism on how inaccurate historical details in Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris out there. When I first learned the article that harshly criticized the novel, I was perplexed because I'd enjoyed the story very much. I honestly thought Lale and Gita's story was touching and their survival tale and energy were unimaginable and absolutely deserved some respect. Then I read the critique, and one detail that I was most shocked by was that apparently, Morris even spelled the name Lali wrong as Lale. The article threw me off quite a bit, but then I questioned myself, did all the inaccuracies change much of the gist of the story? Sure, the historical details infuriated and made me mad, but wasn't the one thing that impressed me Lale and Gita's singular and impossible love for each other? And did the inaccuracy really taint that? To be honest, I still don't have the answer to that. In fact, I am now torn, not knowing what to think of this novel. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern It’s a story about stories told through stories. My opinion on this book is mixed at best. I sort of enjoyed it, but at the same time I was a bit lost in its layered metaphors. At first, I was intrigued by the metaphorical expression and imaginative way of story telling, but then I quickly got buried in too many layers of symbolic description and code words. I felt like there’s no real plot to hang my interest onto. There were a lot of characters which actually sort of overlapped one and another, but they were a tad too many to actually be scrimped in a book, which is why at the end, there were just too many things the characters did or faced that went straight unexplained. Despite all my disappointments, it’s hard to completely write this one off still. At the end of the day, there’s definitely something interesting about its way of story telling, but I felt like it tried a bit too hard to be ingenuous and new and authentic and ended up being convoluted instead. #books #bookish #bookstagram #instabooks

Who is your favorite fantasy writer of all time? I am continuing to read City of Dragons by Robin Hobb. It's too early to say anything, but I can feel that some real interesting stuff is going to happen in this book. If you've read this one, could you let me know just this: will Thymara and Sintara ever get along well? I am tad annoyed with Sintara's haughty attitude, kinda feel like to tell her off myself! #book #bookstagram #instabooks #bookish

Do you guys re read books? Sometimes I feel like I give far not enough level of focus than what a good book deserves like this one I am currently reading, Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. I have not been able to focus well because of things happening concurrently in my life like work and family. And I feel like I've missed important stuff from the book, and I think I should re read it. But with that many unread books available out there, it's just getting harder and harder for me to ever re read a book. It's like as long as I finish the book, I get the gist of it, that's enough. Many other good stories are waiting for me. Do you guys ever feel the same way? We are currently out of town and I haven't been reading much, but I am opening the Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. Even though I am just as far of an image as possible from Jews or anything Jewish really, anything related to holocaust always feels important to me personally. Apart from the height of indignation that I absolutely feel towards discriminative politics, it is one of the biggest and the worst genocide ever happened on earth. Just to imagine that a person or a group of people can wage that level of atrocity is unimaginable. But that happened, didn't it? NEW YEAR, NEW FEELS, NEW CHANCES, SAME DREAMS, FRESH STARTS. At the beginning of 2019 I wished myself a life without regrets. Looking back, I was like an embryonic fool wishing that kind of thing. But anyway, learning my lesson late is still better than to never learn. At least, now I know that, a life without regrets is both inhuman and impossible. I wish I did it differently. I wish I didn’t go. I wish I were there. Those are the looks of regrets. Regret isn’t pretty, nor entertaining, but it is a part of life. We regret things that we regard as mistakes. But we are all bound to have made mistakes and to constantly make them for the rest of our life. For without mistakes, there’s no way for us to ever learn anything. Regret is here in each of our life to again and again remind us that there’s always a way to make things better in the future. Regret is a sign that we’ve learned something. And Regret also means that we’ll do and fare better in the year ahead. So now, cheers to as lots of regrets as we can have in 2020! Happy Year 2020, Nerdies! #bookish #bookstagram #instabooks #books
